eorge Pincock was announced as the head track &field/cross country coach at Texas A&M University-Commerce on December 1, 2016. He had served as interim head coach starting in October 2016.
Entering his ninth season at the helm of the track & field program, Pincock has coached over a 100 NCAA All-Americans, which includes 13 individual and 3 relay team national titles. In total, the Lions have won 25 national championships in Pincock's tenure.
Pincock was tasked with leading the Lions into unterchartered terriroty as they joined the Division I ranks and the Southland Conference. In the first season in the Southland, the Lions impressed with third place finishes on the men's side at both conference championships and the Lion women taking seventh at the indoor championships and sixth on their home track at the outdoor championships. J.T. Smith won the 60 meter dash, 100 meter dash outdoors, and 200 meter dash outdoors conference titles, while also winning the USA Track & Field 60 meter dash indoor national championship. The women's 4x400 meter relay team won the women's team's first conference title in the Division I era and the men's 4x100 meter relay team set a new conference meet record on their way to winning the SLC crown.
Throughout Pincock's tenure at A&M-Commerce, the Lions had come close to a top-four finish at the national championships, but had come up short, that changed in 2021. After a great performance for the Lion men at the indoor national championships, where Ushan Perera repeated as the high jump champion, the men finished seventh. The Lion women, behind a late comeback to finish as the runner up in the 4x400 meter relay at the indoor national championships, finished 17th. At the outdoor conference championships, the Lion men received the elusive trophy, finishing fourth nationally, powered by Ushan Perera (high jump), Moaz Ibrahim (discus), and J.T. Smith (100m) winning national titles. It was the second best finish at a national championship meet in school history for the Lion men in the NCAA era.
Entering the 2021-22 season, there was just one National Champion in the Lion women's program history. That changed in a span of a few hours in 2022 as Candesha Scott brought home the javelin title and Minna Svaerd capped off her career with a national championship in the 400 meter hurdles leading to an eighth-place finish for the Lion women at the 2022 outdoor national championships, which is the highest finish in school history. The five combined National Championships in 2022 are also the most in school history. For his and the program's accomplishments, Pincock was named the 2022 USTFCCCA South Central Region Coach of the Year.
After much of the 2020 season was cut short due to the pandemic, the Lions returned to the track in the 2021. Ushan Perera won the national championship in the high jump at both the indoor and the outdoor NCAA championships and also won the conference titles in both conference meets. Additionally, the Lion men's 4x100 meter relay had an incredible race to win the outdoor National Championship. The Lion men placed as the runner up at the indoor conference championships and third at the outdoor championships, while finishing eighth at the indoor national championships seventh at the outdoor championships. The Lion women were third at both the indoor and outdoor conference championships.
The 2020 season was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the Lions did compete in the indoor conference championships prior to the rest of the season being canceled. The Lion men placed third and the women placed sixth with six Lions winning conference titles.
In the 2019 season, Pincock led the Lion men to a third place finish at the Lone Star Conference Indoor Championships and a runner-up finish at the outdoor championships. The Lion women placed third at both the indoor and outdoor conference championships. The Lions had top 10 finishes at the National Championships on the men's side with the 4x400 meter relay squad repeating as indoor national champions. At the outdoor championships, Joseph Brown won the outdoor National Championship in the Discus.
The 2018 season, Pincock's second season at the helm of the Lion Track & Field program, was very successful. The men's track team earned its fourth consecutive Indoor LSC Championship and Pincock was named LSC Men's Coach of the Year for the second year in a row. The women's track team also had a successful indoor season, finishing third in the conference with a school record in points. Under Pincock's coaching, DeVontae Steele won his second individual National Championship in the triple jump. The men's 4x400-meter relay team also took home the National Championship, helping the team finish fifth overall at the NCAA Indoor National Championships. The Lion men were ranked as high as fourth in the nation. Nine Lion men were named All-Americans and five women were also named First Team All-Americans. Pincock helped coach Florian Obst and Rashard Clark, who were named LSC Athletes of the Year. Under Pincock, the Lion track and field teams earned 27 All-Region selections and 24 All-Conference awards.
The 2018 outdoor season was just as successful for the Lions as both the men's and women's teams were ranked in the top-10 in the nation. The men's team finished runner-up at the LSC Championships while the women's team finished in third place. At the NCAA National Championships, Florian Obst repeated as decathlon National Champion, helping the men's team finish sixth overall at the meet. Under Pincock, Obst was named LSC Male Field Athlete of the Year. Kamryn McKee also received high recognition, becoming the first female track athlete in program history to be named LSC Female Track Athlete of the Year. The Lion track and field teams earned 16 All-American selections, 33 All-Region selections and 25 All-Conference awards.
Pincock had a successful first indoor season as head coach. He was named Lone Star Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year following the Lions' dominating first place performance in the LSC Championship, their third consecutive LSC title. The women's team finished in third place, their best finish in program history. Under his coaching, Luis Romero was named men's Track Athlete of the Year for the third time in his career. 16 of his athletes were named First Team All-LSC and 15 athletes qualified for the national tournament. 13 of his athletes were named All-Americans, including six First Team All-American selections.
The track and field program continued to flourish under Pincock during the outdoor season in 2017. Pincock was again named the LSC Men's Outdoor Coach of the Year following a first place finish in the LSC Championship. The women's team finished in third place. He was also named the Division II South Central Region Men's Track and Field Coach of the Year, by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Under Pincock's coaching, Florian Obst was named the Outstanding Male Field Athlete of the Year. 31 Lions were named to the All-Conference Team, including 14 First Team All-LSC Athletes. 21 would receive All-Region honors and 18 would qualify for the NCAA Tournament.
Pincock served as an assistant coach at A&M-Commerce since December 2015, helping the Lions claim the 2016 Lone Star Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship on the men’s side with the largest margin of victory in conference history. The women’s team set a new team point record at the 2016 indoor championships. Seven student-athletes advanced to the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships, with Ricky Romero (800 meters) and Devontae Steele (long jump) earning the Lions’ first indoor track & field national championships. The men’s team finished eighth nationally at the indoor meet. 13 student-athletes earned all-region honors in the indoor season.
In the 2016 outdoor track & field season, the Lion men finished 19th nationally and six Lion events earned All-American status. The Lion men finished third in the LSC championship, with the women’s team taking fourth. Three Lions claimed individual conference championships. The Lions also excelled in the classroom with three LSC All-Academic honorees and nine USTFCCCA All-Academic honorees.
The Carson City, Nev., native came to A&M-Commerce after two seasons at Millikin University where he was director of track & field and cross country after serving as an assistant coach. At Millikin, Pincock coached multiple all-conference performers, won a conference championship, and had a national championship qualifier. Pincock was responsible for developing and implementing recruitment strategies to attract and retain athletically skilled and academically qualified student-athletes. In addition to coaching, he also developed competition schedules, planned practices, coordinated transportation and other administration roles.
Pincock received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Integrative Physiology in 2007 from the University of Colorado where both his athletic career and coaching career started. As a student-athlete, Pincock ran the 200-meter dash, 400-meter run, and competed in multiple relays. Pincock was a seven-time Big 12 Conference honoree, two-time All-Region selection, earned All-American honors, was an Academic All-American and made the University of Colorado Dean’s List.
After his competitive days, Pincock volunteered for the Buffaloes as an Assistant Coach for sprinters and hurdlers from 2010-11. He then held a graduate assistant position for track and field at Central Methodist from August 2011 until July 2013. At Central Methodist, Pincock coached nine Heart of America Athletic Conference Champions, 23 all-conference performers, six NAIA All-Americans, and coached 17 athletes to school records. He received his Masters of Education from Central Methodist in 2013.
Pincock and his wife Aftan were married in 2015.
