Summer Creek High School Former Head Track & Field Coach for 15 years...First year coaching Discus...Head Coach of Your Event

About this speaker

I grew up a distance runner. Wanted to be a distance runner at the University Level, instead attended Rice University on Academic Scholarships. Year before graduation, changed my major to Exercise Science and was "ALL IN" on coaching. Within a few years I became the Head Track & Field Coach for the High School I graduated from, and also taken on the role of Special Teams Coordinator/Defensive Coordinator for the football team.

Around 5 years ago, I decided to make a career move and began coaching for Summer Creek. It was the FIRST year of coaching Discus. Summer Creek Throwers have always been successful. This year was no exception and may have been the best year yet. Three Discus Throwers advanced to Regionals, all 3 threw 179' or better. Junior, Kyran Duhon advanced to the State meet and earned a 2nd place medal. His sophomore year he was throwing in the 140's, and by the end of his junior year, he had reached 193 ft.

This lecture will focus on the Philosophy, Structure, Mentality, and Day to Day Routines of a "First Year" Discus coach...trying to figure it out.
